Toxic Spraying

Background

Oregon forest activity procedure

The Oregon Forest Practices Act governs work on non-federal lands.  The Oregon Department of Forestry receives notifications from forest landowners, timber owners, or operators.  The Forestry Service then monitors the permits, who does the work, and when operations take place.

The Forest Activity Electronic Reporting and Notification System (FERNS)

FERNS is designed to allow forest operators to notify the Oregon Department of Forestry prior to conducting an operation or forest practice.

FERNS also allows anyone to subscribe to receive e-mail notifications of operations and information alerts.  People who want information about plans for forestry work or to submit official comments about the plans can use the subscriber service.  Subscriptions last through December 31 and can be easily renewed.  No fees apply when using this service.

If you are concerned about aerial spraying in your area, we strongly encourage you to visit the FERNS web site and sign up to receive these alerts.

Citizen action

Several WC CAN members and other citizens are actively fighting to preserve their quality of life.  If you would like more information, or have information or energy to contribute, please contact us and ask to be put in touch with our Toxic Spraying Committee Chair.
